Which medium do you prefer? eg. oils, acrylics, etc.
Watercolours
Are you a full time artist?
Part Time
Who are your favourite 2 artists?
Impossible to say, I enjoy so many.
JMW Turner perhaps and Sargent
Do you have any goals for your painting?
Yes! I want to become more proficient in building them on a strong abstract foundation that holds together well and is interesting.
I want to improve my craft and have a better sense of which w/c technique to use when.
I want to speed up both the thinking and painting process, right now I am at a snails pace.
ILong term, I want to produce and sell enough to supplement our income and then to make a living. Even though I have been painting part time I now plan to paint full time with that goal in mind. I joined VAA a year ago as the first step to making that a reality.
Hi Jane, I would be delighted to be your friend. I really admire your watercolors. When doing them, I find them a constant struggle. Either I make them so tight, as in a still life, or I make a mess. Because oil is so forgiving, I do more, and take a pleine aire watercolor class every week for the love of painting outdoors and for the challenge. How did you begin with w/c? How did you develop that lovely loose style? Anyway, it will be fun chatting with you.

Hi Jane, such a small world! My very first holiday was at Bognor Regis...about 1952! I'd like more sunshine...but I do love the sea which is just at the end of our street. None of my paintings are local though. They're for previous workshops, from Richard's photos of lovely places in NZ. Beautiful but I don't know that part of the world and didn't feel a connection. I skipped a couple of workshops for that reason. I much prefer this still life project and working from a live subject. I find working even from my own photos difficult and a bit dispiriting, there's so much information and vitality missing.
I've been here since Workshop 1...haven't participated in all of them but I find the time limit can be motivating and I'm enjoying this still life project more than the landscapes from photographs, although those have been a good challenge too. I like that Richard reinforces the VAA lessons and has done the course himself.

I originally found VAA via Richard's site.
How about you?
